Around 5pm today I went to my favorite washout near by brother's place close to FloraBama. Threw out two lines but my second cast went a little astray and settled pretty close to the first. Ahh, I said to myself, I'm too lazy to recast, it'll be OK. Rookie mistake.

Maybe 10 minutes later, my eastern rod doubles over as my hookup heads west. Then my western rod bends and for a moment, I thought maybe it was a double hookup. No such luck. The fish swims straight into my second line and like an idiot, I pick up my second rod. Now I'm holding both poles, one under each armpit with no way to crank either, as this one fish is stripping line from both reels. I must have looked pretty comical. Needless to say, I lost the fish and spent the rest of the daylight untangling my rigs.

Hey, sometimes you just have to laugh at yourself! Today I learned to not be a lazy fisherman and to fight a fish with only one pole at a time.

I've made  careless mistakes many times before... now I try to ask myself what would a fellow accountable for those mistakes would say. Like a Navy Chief, or Marine Corp Gunney.,, chances are I'd get my ass chewed, and he'd be right.

That's why I love to hate Tred Barta... he's an A-1 butthead but he can teach you a thing or two about fishing.

I'm NO Navy Chief, nor Marine Gunnery Sergeant... but I've learned alot from both.

Attention to detail, can mean the difference between success and failure.

And you  can  do it without being an A-1 butthead, but those guys are REALLY special.

Funny...but that is better then watching a best friend casting to a rig and actually watching the ( brand new) rod and reel get launched into 35' of water.
