Yep,

Definately go to MBT.  I think their winter time special of $149.99 is still the price.  That includes everything you need to get certified other than your snorkle gear.  You can start Wednesday and have your cert by Sunday.  Or you can spread the classes, pool work, and cert dives out over how ever long you want to take.

Take a ride down to MBT and talk to them about getting certified. It's the shop I choose to use for all my training, and I bought most of my gear there.

You'd be hard pressed to find a better group of people to dive with.

I kinda like MBT but the thing to remember when looking at classes is to compare apples to apples. I  am a former instrutor and Icould have told you I would teach you to dive for $50 but then you would have to buy books, personal gear, ect. ect. The point is don't go by just price make sure your comparing everything equally.  Good luck

Another thing I would go with NAUI or PADI. I'm kinda partial to these agencies.

NAUI Instructor (former)

PADI open water that got me started.

That's what is great about the MBT shop.  Their price is for everything minus your snorkle gear (Mask, snorkle, booties, fins).  You can choose to spend as little or as much as you want on that stuff.  Fins can run around $100+ for a decent pair.  Mask can be anything from the walmart special at $11.99 to the top of the line mask of $100 or so.  Snorkle can be a straw for all that it matters.  There's nothing special about a snorkel.  Booties are going to run about $30-$40 or so.

So on average it's going to cost you about $350 plus or minus some to get certified if you want good enough fins to keep you going in the sport after your cert.  I dove a Walmart mask for 1.5 years before I got me a good one.

Now over in Mobile, I have no freaking clue over that way.

Can't say enough about MBT.  Great place and great people.  Fritz will also give yoy a discount on your equipment afterwards which will make up alot of the training price.

Does the $149 include check out dives. Some places include them and some don't.

MBT supplies books, dive gear except for fins mask and snorkel. You have to drive to the dive sites but they have a few places the class can vote on.

It does not include the cost of a park entrance (like Fort Pickens or Morrison Springs) and it does not include the cost of your fins, mask, snorkle and I think the wetsuit if you want one.  They do provide the tank and BC.
