Last year I bought a box of ammo that had 2 defective bullets (out of 250).  I had shot 100 rounds at the range and was home cleaning the pistol when I noticed the defective bullet.  I was glad it was not one of the 100 I had just shot.  A small part of the edge of the shell casing was folded back on itself.  Further examination found another bullet with the same problem and several that had a sludge-like grease on the outer casing.  Earlier this year I bought another box of the same Ammo ( Remington UMC) and found 3 defective bullets and more sludge.  So, now I inspect, cull, and clean every box of ammo I buy.  That took a while to do for my pre-election ammo purchase.

PS. I just bought 500 rounds of Wolf ammo and all 500 rounds were perfect.  Maybe I need to change brands.

If only we were half as good at discovering the right answer as we are at making the wrong answer look right.

I have done that ever since I started reloading. Just became a habit. There always seemed to be those troublesome rounds that wanted to have something wierd happen to them in the process. If a round had any sort of issue at all I threw it away. But, that also made me look at new rounds I got since I figured their machines and materials could have defects just like mine. I never really found that many issues though. I have probably thrown out less than 20 new rounds.
