We are looking to build a house very soon, and need some suggestions on a pool company, design and price. I am asking for all of you that have had a pool installed recently please post a pic of your pool, and how much you have into it. We want to get the most for our money. Also the cost/difference in salt and fresh water pools. Any and all help appreciated.

Sounds like your stuck with SHIfT work for awhile.

Give me a call I know a couple pool guys that I can get you in touch with that can answer all your questions.

I can not speak of their prices, but I will speak highly of their character. I'm going to put one in too, but i'm waiting for little man to get bigger. I'm just not taking any chances right now to much can happen.

Call me and we can go drink beer and steal one of Joel's tires so y'all can carpool again.

Just had this installed by Robert's Pools about 4 weeks ago.  Its' 42 X18 and ran about $28,500.  We had a good bit of extra concrete added to standard package and our friends have said that their biggest regret was not getting enough concrete during the installation of their pools.  They started on a Monday and had water filling the pool by Thursday.  The only slight delay was the pouring of the concrete deck due to weather.  We got and upgrade L.E.D. light that fades or strobes between about 12 colors and it ran about $700.  We got everything else standard.  The salt water setup was around $2000 extra but the standard deal has an automatic chlorinator and seems to work pretty well.  We had a very good experience with Robert's pools.  Only downside was that the heavy equipment was a little rough on our yard and driveway but you shouldn't have any issues with that on a new home.  Bottom line.  They treated us very well and do very nice work.  They came very highly recommended to us as well.  Couldn't believe the all the work they got done in less than a week.  Congrats on the new home!! Hope this helped.

We had the exact pool as dbyrd installed last year by FAGANS CUSTOM POOLS (Dick Fagan) went with the salt system and extra concrete was around $24k was completly satisfied with Dicks work. That price did not include the fence.

Dick Fagan does real good work and is a good guy. The salt water pool is the only way to go. No chemicals , no hurting eyes from the chlorine. Go salt.

Damn.  Guess I should've asked the same question Skeeter did before we built ours.  Sounds like I could have saved some money.  Oh well.  We love the pool and had a good experience with the company we used.  We'll check out Fagan's if and when my wife ever talks me in to a new house.

Cox pools did ours, automated salt system with two remote controls. Gunite pool w/ spa attached.

The remote on the left can be taken into the pool, the one on the right is like the master control. These can operate the lights, heater, spa jets, deck jets, spa blower, as well as many functions of the chlorinator and pool pump. Pump timers, chlorine % etc...

Very happy with Cox. no problems and the pool has been crystal clear since day 1.

Add salt about once a month depending on rainfall, Stabilizer maybe every other month, and calcium about every four months or so.

We also add 8oz. of "No more problems" weekly

Saltwater is definataly the way to go, the water is softer, and doesn't smell.

I also prefer the gunite. No liner to ever replace.

Be sure to double the concrete walkway area around the pool.  Do not go with the standard 3 or 4 feet.

Been a lurker for a while on the sight and can really appreciate the advice given on several points.  I decided to create the account and throw in my .02 on the topic. Can't speak much on the pool installation companies but there is another aspect of this type of project that shouldn't be overlooked.  What I'm talking about is the pool deck itself.  How many times have you gone to a more "established" home or other location with a pool that has a few years on it and you look at the concrete "cool decking" or stamped concrete only to see the cracking seams or the futile attempts at repairing said cracks.  We had this same situation at the condo complex where I live and not only was it unsightly it had safety issues as a result of uneven concrete edges.  What we did was have a local company come in and completely remove the old pool deck and replace it with interlocking concrete pavers. The job turned out great! not only will we not ever have to worry about cracks ever again but if there is ever an issue that requires removal of an area of the pool deck you simply remove the area you need for access and reinstll the pavers.   Most pool installation companies when they quote a price for the pool it is inclusive of X square feet of concrete, if you want to pursue the paver option simply ask the contractor for a credit of the amount they would have charged for the concrete and opt for pavers instead.  They are a little more expensive than slab concrete ($2-$4 sq ft.) but when you weigh out the low maintenance and longevity of the product it is worth it! If anyone is interested I'll be glad to provide pics of the job that we had done and give you the name of the cute little blonde that was incharge of our project.  Hope this helps!

I've got to agree about the pavers. The look is better and repairs are a snap. I've got a paver company that usually charges around $5.50 per sq ft for install including the materials. He's done walkways at my house and drives, pool decks and other landscape work for us on many jobs. PM if you want his contact info.

I think the best place to get a pool installed is "in the backyard".   I have seen front yard pools, but that is a little less private, don't you think.  Regardless, you would want it at your house, and I am sure you will make the right choice.

It seems that "MOST" of the responses are very helpful, and very much appreciated, and thanks for the PM's sent. Who knows, I may one day start a thoughtful thread inspired by Garbo reading (How many laps can you swim in your pool ??)

Do me {and yourself} a favor and call Walt at Guntner's Pools. He's been doing pools for close to 20 years. He installs all the pools for Classic Homes and he built the pool in the Parade of Homes house at The Nature Trail subdivision in Beulah. He can do any type of pool you would like and because he doesn't have much overhead, his price will  probably be as low  as anyone around. Give him a call and get a quote. His # is 293-4446.

I promise no offense was meant.  If I did offend  you I will be more than happy to apologize both publically or privately.    But, if you read the question asked the answer was a pretty good one, even though it was based more on humor than being a correct answer.   Sorry for the humor.

Please accept my apology.
