| We had planned to fish some inshore structure but with the nasty green stuff and ripping current we decided to take the skiff a few miles out. It payed off! Using LYs in 50-90 feet we limited out on Mangos and none were small. We also threw in some Porgies and an Almaco.

| Actualy since we had planned an inshore trip all we had was light spinning gear. I was using 10 lb power pro with 20 lb floro. The bite was on strong for a few hours before we got blown off the sweet spot. Btw the pictures are of my son Andy and my buddy Mikey. This was Andy's first time out of the pass so it was his and my skiffs innaugural offshore trip.
He is turning into quite the little fisherman. Here he is on the cover of the "Fishermans weekly newsletter" where he was named the angler of the week in June.

Nice catch budy!! I am a little confused on the name you have for them. I thought those were "mangrove" snapper. Can anyone confirm that? We caught a few last monday and I was using the mangrove size chart (which was 10") to keep them. If I am wrong, I sure am gla we didn't see the Grouper Troopers on the way in. LOL!!!

i callem black snapper. they sure have been thick this year. just got in, waiting on the rain to clean fish and wash the boat. there is no size limit, but are included in your 10 snapper aggregate. no season either. i like the taste better than the endangered red snapper. i use 30 lb fluorocarbon for a leader. they will pull you in a wreak or rocks like a grouper if you let em. thats why the higher test, but fluorocarbon for invisibility and abrasion.

| on the size limit the florida regs say no size on black but 10 in on gray and mangroves(5 per harvestor per day) in aggregate........so i gues it would be safe to say just keep em if they are over 10 inches and up to 5 PP??? i know its hard for me to tell the difference...and we had some the other day and 1 officer called it one thing and the other called it another so they just let us go.... http://myfwc.com/marine/Docs/July2008RegsChart.pdf Snapper-Black & Wenchman Included within 10 per harvester per day Snapper aggregate bag limit Snapper-Cubera Not less than 12" or more than 30" (see remarks) Included within 10 per harvester per day snapper aggregate bag limit if under 30" Allowed 2 Cubera Snapper over 30" per harvester or vessel per day which ever is less. 30" or larger not included within the Snapper aggregate bag limit. Snapper Gray (Mangrove) 10" 5 per harvester per day
