| Called big German, aka emeraldcozy, and he got me started. I located the silonoid (sp?) but it is not like a normal one. If someone can call me and help I will drive to the meeting in Milton. Should be a simple fix but I'm just to darn dumb to trouble shoot. I'm guessing less then an hour fix. Symptoms are drove the truck to the house. Went to get gas and motor will not turn over. Battery is 100% charged. My guess is Silinoid or starter. Everything else works. WIndows, lights, radio, locks etc.... When I turn the key switch it just goes CLICK. Markus told me about bypassing the silinoid but it doesn't have prongs so I don't have a clue on how to do it. It has clip harness, best way I can describe it, on the silinoid. DAMN, forgot my # is 457-8783.

On your old truck Murph it is a simple fix. take off the battery cable and two bolts and slide her out of there. I just replaced the starter in my old truck and it was like $69 for a new one from Auto Zone.

Come on Sam..... After walking Murph through the diagnosis, do you think I left him hanging That is exactly what I told Murph. Only problem..... 1) All Murph's tools are on his boat and you know where his boat is...Scotts 2) Truck won't start, can't get it up on ramps. 3) Can't get under to remove starter (like me won't fit under) 4) Suggested, jack up, block up under tire. Not a 15-30 minute job once everything is at hand. First replacement starter in over 200,000 miles, now I call that service.

| Well here is the scoop. Wahoo Dan called and gave me some pointers and EmeraldCozy stopped by on his way home from work. Marcus and I was able to get the truck on the ramp to lift the truck up some. Marcus confirmed that it was the starter. He had his tools in his truck and took off the starter. Hooked the starter to an extra boat battery to confirm and NOTHING. Called all the stores and all say the same price. $104 WITH the core $134 without. Once I know where and what to do now I'm going to call all the junk yards and see what there prices are. I just hate that I missed the bash over at the oval office. Boat is at Niki's house, but I will not get on the bike if I have had over 3 beers.

Murph...one possibility for you, better then a "junk yard" starter might be...Call around to the re-builder shops and get a price. I'd go that way before I put on a used, and unknown condition starter. But you know me...I'd tear it down and look inside.

| There is a major marine starter rebuilder on Navy Blvd. at Chiefs Way real close to the NAPA store. http://www.arcomarine.com/ If they do not do automotive, they should be able to steer you to the best place in town.

answer24 (7/18/2008) clean your connections to battery and starterConnections are clean. Starter is dead. Ron, Dan told me the same thing and gave me the location. I need to have the truck for when it rains because of having to drive to O.B. everyday. Guess I'll pay the extra $50 and get the 3 year warranty. Truck probobly will not last that long anyways. Hell Found a crack in my transmission line while under the truck. Guess I'll just duck tape it.

No difference in a Ford starter on that truck and a Marine 302 starter on a I/O. In fact I took my GMC 350 starter to a automotive re-builder to have it rebuilt. Told them it was for marine use and wanted it rebuilt as close to new as possible. Had them put in a "NEW" armature, not a re-manufactured/reground.

When you get time you can cut the metal line, get a piece of hose and slip over the line. Use two clamps on either end. Have done many that way through the years with no problem. I'd make sure you get either hydraulic or fuel line hose, NAPA should have the hydraulic hose.

Murph did you check at Auto Zone? Seems like mine was a lifetime warranty. When you put the new one on makes sure that the nuts are good and tight, mine worked loose and rounded out the gear in the starter bu I took it to AZ and they swapped it out no problem.

I called Napa (the highest), Auto ZOne, Western Auto and Pep boys were all $104 plus core. What year is your truck?

Ford has a problem at times with those "two" bolts working loose. Lucky it was the bendix gear and not the ring gear it FUBARED. Another check BEFORE you install a starter is to make sure that the "nut" that secures the battery lead stud is tight before installing. I had the bolts on a starter on a 351 in my Bronco work loose years ago. Luckily (changing oil) I caught it before either the bendix gear or ring gear got screwed up.

| mine is an old 76 F100 Murph. Working at a concrete plant you can understand why I dont drive a nice vehichle. Yes Ron the two bolts and nuts that hold the starter on, One of them would tighten up then release and I replaced both of them from the little "help" section at AZ for like $4. That is the one thing I like most about AZ, they keep your info on their computer and your warranty is good at any location, just walk in give them your phone number and walk out with a replacement and they are usually very forgiving even on brake rotors that the wife didnt tell you until they were grinding

H2OMARK (7/18/2008)
Hey Murph, I'm coming down in the morning. Is there any tools you can think of that I have that you may need? Mark...no special tools needed. 1/2" or 9/16" box wrench and/or sockets and maybe an extension are all he needs.

bamasam (7/18/2008) 9/16 open wrench Ron, the socket wont fit in place.Been awhile since I did a Ford starter. I like the GM's (bolt on from the bottom not side) and actually meant a combination wrench. Although I do have starter wrenches which are box, have the shape of a boomerang.

| Well time me. I just got back from Auto Zone. $104 plus tax = $112 (Lifetime warranty) $94 + TAX for a 1 year warranty. Got the socket (13 mm) Extension and getting ready to change cloths. See how long and how many time I have to take it off and put it back on. I'm used to that though from the boat. I just look it as practice. LOL!!!!!!!!!!
