Fay gonna pull an "Elena" ?

Several models now have it getting blocked, stalling and heading west along the coast - (Hope not - stay inland Fay!!!)

The way these models are shifting run-to-run is a little un-nerving, and it means the forces that steer Fay around are weak and unpredicable.

The good news is she didn't make hurricane strength this morning as she hit near Ft Myers...the bad news is some of the computer models are predicting her to get back in the Gulf:boo....stay away Jim Cantore

South Carolina? New Orleans? Where will Fay go next?
The computer models continue to show an unusual amount of disagreement about the longer term path of Fay. The official NHC forecast follows the GFDL and HWRF models, which takes Fay northwards through the Florida Peninsula. However, the latest runs of these models now predict Fay will emerge off the east coast of Florida, restrengthen a bit to a 60-70 mph tropical storm, then make landfall Wednesday along the Georgia/South Carolina coast. This solution assumes that the trough of low pressure turning Fay northward will be strong and enough and be moving slow enough to pull Fay all the way northwards into the U.S.

A weaker trough is predicted by the rest of the models, which foresee that Fay will stall over central Florida or the adjacent Atlantic Ocean on Wednesday. A ridge of high pressure will then build in, forcing Fay westward across the northern Gulf of Mexico. A second landfall in the Florida Panhandle:doh or in Louisiana near New Orleans is then a possibility. Since more and more of the models are trending this way, I believe this solution has an equal chance of being correct. "The Joker" may be around to trouble us for another full week or longer.

Couple of new areas to watch. A system that moved offshore right south of us is looking good for development. As of right now, it looks to head west.

Other systems are in the Atlantic. We are about to get into the startup of the season.

I always go north. We pack everything best possible and go to the hunting camp.

I bet there are some cool stories out there of the bad storms some of you have been through without leaving.

As I mentioned, we pack and leave.

It doesn't have to be a hurricane, but it may be a boating trip turned bad. But, we have all been there. Once at Crooked Island my oldest son, myself and my best friend beached a Hewes Flats boat and took cover up the beach. We covered in raingear and when it was over the Hewes was on Dry Ground. A tornado had passed within 200 yards of the spot we chose to ride it out.

Not just in a boat, but anywhere. I am sure there are some that stayed through Ivan, Katrina, Opal and such. We went north.

Hurricane Hole up the Escambia River

I own Becks Lake Fish Camp that is located north of Solutia at the end of Becks Lake Road and connects with the Escambia River. It is a well protected basin that many boaters have used before in hurricanes and is accessed by a channel off of the Escambia River. We try to offer some kind of ferry service to those that want to anchor in the "lake" and don't have their own dingy. You can call Billy Brooks at 850-435-5557 for more info.

Tropical Season

Item number two of interest is an area of disturbed weather in the southern Gulf of Mexico just north and northwest of the Yucatan Peninsula. This disturbed weather is in association with the interaction of a tropical wave and a upper-level low pressure system. This disturbed area of weather is expected to be drawn northward into the northern Gulf of Mexico and then inland over the next 36 hours ahead of a trough of low pressure tracking into the eastern United States. Development is not expected from this system, however, it will be watched closely as environmental conditions are favorable for development over the northern Gulf of Mexico.

Even though the man-made cutoff point of the Atlantic hurricane season has come and gone, it does not mean that Mother Nature has to obey those deadlines.

A new area of low pressure has developed about 200 miles east of Puerto Rico. The disturbance is not highly organized with the majority of thunderstorms remaining north of the low pressure's center of circulation.

Environmental conditions remain slightly favorable for further organization but it is possible that a tropical or subtropical storm may form within the next 24 hours.

Even if the disturbance does not organize further, it will still bring gusty winds and squalls of tropical downpours to the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and Hispaniola.

Gulf water temperature less than 78.8 degrees will not support hurricane formation, so we be there.
